EducationUSA Competitive College Club

To ensure that the best and the brightest students in Armenia have a chance at a U.S. university, we have developed the Competitive College Club (CCC). The project is supported by American Councils, EducationUSA, and the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy in Armenia.

What is CCC?

The EducationUSA Competitive College Club (CCC) is an intensive group advising program that assists top high school students who want to be competitive applicants to U.S. colleges and universities. Participation is open to all top students in grades 9-12 who are interested in pursuing higher education in the United States.

Students meet year-round and participate in lectures, book clubs, community service activities, cross-cultural exercises and test preparation, all conducted in English. The activities help ensure that students are properly advised as they go through the process of preparing themselves both academically and socially for a U.S. college or university, and work to determine which schools might be a good fit.

The EducationUSA CCC is open to all students in a city/town of any nationality, ethnicity, and economic background.  Program components include the following:

  • Two meetings a month during the school year. One meeting involves a guest speaker and discussion, designed to acquaint CCC participants with the U.S. classroom style. The second meeting is focused on SAT/TOEFL preparation activities.
  • Community service: 8 hours/month during the school year, 8 hours/week during the summer.
  • Reading Competency: read one book in English per month.
  • Application preparation: intense advising support to identify and select appropriate U.S. colleges/universities, prepare statement of purpose and other application materials.
  • Recruitment for the year-long program started in November, 2011.

EducationUSA Student Ambassador Program

What is the goal of Student Ambassador Program?

The goal of the Student Ambassador Program is to establish a corps of five EducationUSA Student Ambassadors to promote higher education opportunities in the United States to prospective students throughout Armenia.

Who are the Student Ambassadors?

Student Ambassador works with a worldwide team of regional coordinators and advisers who are part of the EducationUSA network, supported by the Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). The EducationUSA Student Ambassador serves an integral role in promoting the services of EducationUSA Advising Centers throughout Armenia.

How does the program work?

The program will extend the reach of the EducationUSA Advising Center to prospective students outside of the capital. Five Student Ambassadors will develop and maintain contacts at schools, universities, American Corners, and other relevant organizations; deliver lectures and presentations on higher education opportunities in the United States and the services of the EducationUSA Advising Center; and assist prospective students to connect with the EducationUSA Adviser. The series of 10 lectures will be delivered at each site by the Student Ambassadors and guest speakers (PCVs, FSOs, and others) starting from December on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Where will the program be implemented?

The project involves the following regions: Lori (Vanadzor), Shirak (Gyumri), Syuniq (Kapan),

Kotayq (Charentsavan), and Tavush (Ijevan).
