To ensure that the best and the brightest students in Armenia have a chance at a U.S. university, we have developed the Competitive College Club (CCC). The project is supported by American Councils, EducationUSA, and the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy in Armenia.

What is CCC?

The EducationUSA Competitive College Club (CCC) is an intensive group advising program that assists top high school students who want to be competitive applicants to U.S. colleges and universities. Students meet year-round and participate in lectures, book clubs, community service activities, cross-cultural exercises and test preparation, all conducted in English. The activities help ensure that students are properly advised as they go through the process of preparing themselves both academically and socially for a U.S. college or university, and work to determine which schools might be a good fit. Participation in CCC is free of charge.

Who can participate?

CCC is open to all students in Yerevan of any nationality, ethnicity, and economic background who:

currently study in grades 8-10 (and will study in 9-11starting September 2013)

have high grades in all school subjects (7 -10 on the 10 point scale)

and

have good command of English.

The only other requirement is commitment.

How can I register to participate?

Bring your birth certificate or passport with you to the American Councils Armenia office at 4/7 Amiryan Street, Imperium Plaza Business Center, Yerevan (open Monday-Friday, 10:00-6:00). The American Councils office will be closed May 28, 2013. Students in the correct grades will receive the student registration form, which must be completed and submitted to the EducationUSA Adviser by the deadline: May 30, 2013, 6:00 PM.

Totally, 48 students and employees benefited from the sessions.

All 3 sessions were conducted by Weslel Mcann, a Peace Corps Volunteer, working at Children of Armenia Fund NGO.

The sessions were really supportive as they included several great tips while preparing for the job interviews. The participants would try to compare the learnt skills to those they used for the previous job interviews.

And those participants, who had no previous work experience, were sure that during the nearest job interview they are going to succeed due to the useful information gained during the session.

The EdUSA Advising Center at American Councils organized a session on writing Cover Letters.

The session was conducted by Wesley McCann, a Peace Corps Volunteer, working at Children of Armenia Fund NGO.

The basics for well-written cover letter were discussed and the participants were asked to write their own cover letters demonstrating their writing ability and highlighting the skills and experiences that make them a good fit for the applying position.

Some of the participants had brought their cover letters and resumes with them, and at the end of the session Wesley McCann edited each of the writings making relevant changes.

Since there were many participants registered for the event, we at EAC together with Wesley McCann plan to hold another session on Cover Letter so that everyone can receive the updated information on writing a strong cover letter.
