Ann Merill, Regional Education Adviser Coordinator for Europe and Eurasia made a presentation on
Education in the USA
to share her knowledge and skills with Armenian students. Attendees who came to the presentation got a chance to know more about US education.
The presentation took place on August 25th at 4 p.m. at the office of American Councils for International Education (ACTR/ACCELS).

Yerevan Educational Advising Center Visitors Participate in Free TOEFL Preparation Courses
In June and July, the Yerevan EAC offered TOEFL tutorials for 20 of its most active and devoted visitors. Those who have actively used the EAC services recently have been invited to participate in free TOEFL preparation courses taught by American Jim Teepen. Two groups of ten students each took part in three weeks of targeted iBT TOEFL training, which was supported their preparedness for the TOEFL test as well as the development of their English language skills.

Education Fairs in Vanadzor and Gyumri
YerevanEducational Advising Centerorganized Education Information fairs in Vanadzor and Gyumri. The events that took place in Vanadzor State Pedagogical Institute named after H.Tumanyan on April 28 and Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute named after M. Nalbandyan on April 29. During the events the participants got information about educational system in US, the application procedures and also were informed about the universities in US. Gifts were given to those who answered correctly the questions prepared by the American Councils staff concerning US education.

The experiences of FLEX Participant Argine Karapetyan (2009) and her host parent, Penny Porter, a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Armenia, are described in anarticlein the local U.S. paper, The Tribune of San Luis Obispo.
Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) in Armenia Trained to Assist in Educational Advising at the American Corner in Gyumri
On May 8th Elvira Dana, American Councils Director and Gayane Grigoryan, Senior Educational Adviser, implemented a short training for PCVs in Gyumri on how to advise Armenians interested in attending institutions of higher learning. PCVs based in and near Gyumri learned about the Yerevan Educational Advising Center activities and services, the applcation process to US universities and colleges, and aspects of U.S. higher education that differ for international students. After this training, Robin Busse, the Consul of the United States Embassy, delivered a lecture about visa issues for vistors to the Gyumri American Corner.
American Councils is appreciative of all the help that PCVs offer beneficiaries of their programs.
